I was able to fix a co-worker’s lexmark who had the same problem. Does anyone know what I can do? Looks like a few of us had the same problem this week! Of course, I’ve only successfully changed it once, since it stopped working after that. The white plastic lever should point up toward the hole in the back top of the printer, opposite where the “cover” has a white wedge that pushes onto the white lever to click the switch on and lemark.
In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. A handy feature lexxmark say the least. About 20 minutes and one broken hinge we are up and printing. Then take some tape and tape it to the housing in the close mode.

I was confused on how to put the white part on and I kept trying to look up the correct way, but finally I gave up and shoved it in. Worst case would be if that ribbon cable were damaged. If the scanner is acting weird, make sure that the ribbon cable that connects to the cover has not become partially unplugged. Please make sure that you are posting in the form of a question. The cheap swich lever mounts with the narrow tappered end pointing upward.
Hi, I had an easier solution! We delete comments that violate our policywhich we encourage you to read. This forum has some of the best people in the world available to help. Nothing has removed this message. Now I see all over the web that everyone is having the “open cover” problem.
Then tape it down, closed. I just installed my third new ink cartridge.

Why so much poverty in your design? Thanks for your detailed instructions. I unplugged it kexmark the wall and plugged it back in, and the cover open message was still there. I finally completely fixed my lexmark printer issue by buying a new HP laser printer.
I’m still struggling with getting the scanner hinges to let go in order to remove it, but that’s a function of not having another set of hands at the moment. My printer is up and working again.
